On Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots being fired at 2106 Dawson Cabin Road. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies and detectives discovered the body of a white female who was later identified as Maria Faye Snook, 33 years of age. Snook was found lying in the front yard of the residence and was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Upon arrival of law enforcement, a white male fled the scene on foot. The male was apprehended after a short foot chase and was identified as Joseph Julio McGarry, 42 years of age.
The investigation revealed that McGarry shot Snook after a domestic argument. Although the investigation continues, McGarry has been charged with one open count of Murder and is being held in the Onslow County Sheriff’s Detention Center under no bond. McGarry has a first court appearance on August 25, 2016.
