Update: Jacksonville Infant Death Investigation

Father charged with death of 9-month old daughter

On September 22, 2017, Special Victims Unit Detectives with the Jacksonville Police Department began an investigation involving the death of a 9-month-old child.  After a lengthy investigation in cooperation with the Onslow County District Attorney’s Office, the child’s father, Traquan Curtis, 21, was charged with an open count of Murder.

On December 14, 2017, Jacksonville Police Department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Waterbury Connecticut Police Department to assist with locating Curtis who was believed to have fled to Connecticut.  On December 15, 2017, the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Waterbury Police Department apprehended Curtis without incident.  Curtis was held in Connecticut and extradited back to Jacksonville, North Carolina for prosecution by Jacksonville Police Department Detectives on December 20, 2017.   He is held at the Onslow County Jail with no bond.
