A Jacksonville man has been arrested on several charges of embezzlement after he reportedly stole money from a sports league he volunteered for.
Keith Ryan Sutton, 37 year old male of Shelmore Drive in Jacksonville was arrested by Onslow County Sheriff’s Office for charges that he allegedly stole thousands of dollars from several athletic leagues in Onslow County. Sutton was the president of the Southwest Athletic League, Southwest Onslow Basketball League and the Southwest Youth Football Association when he was found to be using the sports teams’ funds for his personal use. Sutton also wrote several checks to Piggly Wiggly, made out to himself, using the Richlands Recreational Football Association’s bank account.
Sutton was arrested May 31, 2016 by Det. Sgt. J. Lincoln and charged with the following: Obtaining Property by False Pretense and (3) Counts of Embezzlement. He was remanded to the Onslow County Jail under a $315,000 bond and his first court appearance was scheduled for June 1, 2016.
