Hubert woman charged in Cedar Point Homicide

On 04/06/2018, at approximately 6:40am Carteret County detectives arrested April Lynn Harvey, 56, of 209 Hwy 172, in Hubert, NC with the assistance of the Onslow County Sheriffs Office for a murder that occurred during the overnight hours of 04/05-06/2018 in Cedar Point.
Harvey is accused of shooting and killing her 77-year old-mother, Evelyn Mary Harvey, of “The Villas at  Megan’s Bay”, a condominium complex located off Lighthouse Lane in Cedar Point, NC.
According to Major Jason Wank, Chief Detective, of the Sheriff’s Office, “April Harvey has been cooperative with investigators and actually made her own call to report the incident in the early morning hours of 04/06/2018 to the
Onslow County Communications Center”. Based on that phone call Onslow County
deputies responded to the home of April Harvey while Carteret County deputies
simultaneously responded to the home of Evelyn Harvey and discovered her deceased
as the result of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies with the assistance of the North Carolina Marine Patrol were able to recover
the .357 caliber revolver reportedly used in the homicide, from the water near the
Swansboro-Cedar Point Bridge. Detectives believe a recent family dispute involving
finances is the motive for the crime.
Harvey was charged with one open count of murder and was placed in the Carteret
County Jail under no bond. Harvey is scheduled for her first court appearance on
Monday, 04/09/2018, in Carteret County District Court.
