As a result of an investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the following persons have been arrested and charged as indicated:

BRIEF NARRATIVE:  On September 4, 2019 at approximately 9:10 am the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a possible drug overdose in a convenience store parking lot located at 110 W. Main St., Eureka, N.C.  The caller advised that a male and female were passed out in the vehicle and there were also small children inside.

While law enforcement and EMS were responding, the caller called back to advise that the subjects were now awake and leaving the store.  The suspect vehicle was

located a short distance from the original call and observed to be driving left of center and displaying a fictitious registration plate.  The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force for the aforementioned violations conducted a traffic stop.

Following the traffic stop the driver, Ashley Nichols, was determined to be grossly impaired, operating a motor vehicle while her license was suspended, and was transporting three of her children in the vehicle without being in a seat belt.  Nichols was ultimately arrested for the aforementioned offenses and placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $12,000.00 secure bond. The male passenger, and father to the children, was also determined to be grossly impaired and arrested.

The Wayne County Department of Social Services was notified of the incident.
