On May 14, 2015 New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Detectives conducted an undercover operation that resulted in the arrest of David Hartley. Detectives were notified by NC Probation and Parole that numerous complaints had come into their office in reference to Hartley. Hartley serves as the commander of , and in conjunction with that role supervises probationers that are assigned to perform community service hours at American Legion Post 10. Hartley was being accused of seeking out female probationers and propositioning them for sex in exchange for less time on their community services. Hartley was arrested and charged after Vice/Narcotics Detectives gathered evidence validating the complaints. Hartley has been charged with Obtaining Property by False Pretense and Obstruction of Justice.
