Alleged rapist found in convenient store freezer on Gum Branch

On 12/13/2017, agents with the eastern district of the United States Marshals Service captured Marcus Williams, 33, of Merrimon Road in Beaufort after evading law enforcement for over two months. US Marshals found Williams hiding in a freezer at approximately 8:00pm at a convenient store located on Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville.   In October, warrants were obtained on Williams for First Degree Rape and Assault by Strangulation after a 19-year old female reported the sexual assault after giving Williams a ride home. Williams is also accused of evading law enforcement on a Robbery charge alleged to have occurred in August obtained by the Morehead City Police Department unrelated to the rape. He faces additional Fraud charges for a November incident that occurred in Jacksonville.   Williams has been served with warrants for First Degree Rape, Assault by Strangulation, Robbery, and Fraud. Williams remains in the Carteret County Jail under a $1 million dollar bond and has already had his first court appearance.
