Two people have been arrested for distributing heroin in Onslow County.
In June 2017, an investigation began after Onslow County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit received information that Kenneth Robert Schenck and Cathy Renee Brooks were dealing heroin in the Jacksonville area. Schenck, age 47 and Brooks, age 46 were apprehended and arrested January 2, 2018 while exiting a bus in Jacksonville, N.C. after travelling to New Jersey to buy the heroin. Upon their apprehension, detectives located 979 bags of heroin. This arrest led to a search warrant being served at their residence at 110 Morningside Drive in Jacksonville, where four (4) guns were located and seized.
They were both charged with:
Felony Trafficking Heroin by Possession
Felony Trafficking Heroin by Manufacture
Felony Trafficking Heroin by Transport
Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Heroin
Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Possession of Cocaine
Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Bond was set at $550,000 each.
This investigation was a joint operation between Onslow County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, Jacksonville Police Department, DEA-Wilmington, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police department, N.C. Highway Patrol and the N.C. Department of Revenue.
In addition to the heroin, which has an estimated street value of $18,000, the N.C. Department of Revenue seized (2) motor vehicles, (1) moped, $653.00 in U.S. currency and miscellaneous household items, all of which will be sold at public auction by the NC Dept. of Revenue at a later date.
