Pender County employee charged with embezzlement.
Jaki Larue Pace took more than $1,400 while working for the County Planning Department.
The 44-year-old woman has been the senior permit technician since 2008.
She is accused of taking the money in mid-April. She resigned under suspicion at the end of that month.
She was pocketing permit fees, authorities said.
Pace was jailed with a $10,000 bond.
